Outlook 2003 still in need of Service Pack 1.
With all the excitement about the long awaited Outlook 2003,
fans are still disappointed. Although there are many wonderful
new features (like having a photo for the contact and more
colorful and useful flags) there are still problems interfacing
with other 3rd party software, and serious “cache”
problems. The cache issues create phantom activities, for
example, when you think some information should be showing
and it is not, you have to get out of Outlook to clear the
information to see it. You can fix this with hotfixes from
Microsoft. http://support.microsoft.com/?id=833986
but you have to contact Microsoft Product Support Services
to subscribe up for the fix. Find out more from http://www.outlookcode.com/d/ol2003problems.htm
You may not need Microsoft Exchange or even MailDaemon.
If you are a smaller shop, consider sharing your Outlook database
(.pst file) using a tool like Public Outlook. You can share
one master pst file from one or more clients on your network
for about $100. So far it appears promising.
New software in development.
The Software Magician is now developing software for and in
Outlook 2002:
Contact View Email. Imagine creating a view
of just your selected contacts and then launching an Outlook
Add-in which takes each contact, embeds a personalized HTML
graphic document into a email for them, personalizes the Subject,
and send that single email out, automagically, for the entire
selected View.
Appointment Followups. Imagine having just
added a new contact and then being able to click on one command
button which instantly creates 4 reminder tasks for following
up with that contact: one each for 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month,
and 3 months. How cool is that?
